Região dos Lagos, a region located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, is one of Brazil’s most iconic tourist destinations. It includes cities such as Cabo Frio, Arraial do Cabo, and Armação dos Búzios, and is known for its crystal-clear beaches, stunning landscapes, pleasant climate, and excellent hotel and culinary infrastructure.
It attracts both Brazilian and international tourists year-round, especially during extended holidays and the summer high season.
Crown jewel of Região dos Lagos, Armação dos Búzios—or simply Búzios—is a former fishing village that gained international fame following French actress Brigitte Bardot’s visit in the 1960s.
Since then, it has become one of Brazil’s top tourist destinations.
The city blends rustic charm with sophistication, offering over 20 distinct beaches, boutique shops, art galleries, a vibrant nightlife, and cultural events.
With a permanent population of approximately 40,000, Búzios receives over 1 million visitors annually, which presents major challenges for mobile connectivity.
Connectivity has become essential not only for tourists, but also for residents, workers, and local entrepreneurs who depend on reliable mobile coverage for their daily activities.
The growing demand for high-performance connectivity is an irreversible trend, driven by the widespread use of smartphones, the advancement of 5G networks, and the exponential growth in data traffic.
In tourist hubs like Búzios, this need is even more critical:
– Seasonal traffic spikes place pressure on existing networks;
– Connectivity is vital for tourism services, commerce, and public safety;
– High-quality mobile coverage directly impacts the visitor experience and the competitiveness of the destination.
QMC Telecom carried out the largest mobile network densification and coverage project in Latin America in Búzios.
This multilayer network model was adapted to Búzios’ tourism profile and urban density and included:
– 76 SLS (Street Level Solutions): low-height antennas that provide coverage and capacity close to users;
– 6 camouflaged macros: disguised towers that preserve the natural landscape.
A project of this scale could only be executed—with both speed and quality—by a company with expertise in site acquisition and management like QMC Telecom.

With five years of macro project development alongside the local government and less than six months of construction for the SLS rollout, the infrastructure was delivered between August and December.
This ensured that residents, tourists, and local businesses benefited from improved connectivity before the city’s annual peak season.
The infrastructure was implemented across five major zones or 17 regions, covering key high-traffic areas in the city, with Vila Luiza and Baía Formosa accounting for the largest concentration of assets.
The results were outstanding: the combined solutions improved coverage and capacity levels, with up to a 44% increase in RSRQ (Reference Signal Received Quality) compared to pre-deployment levels.
